At yesterday’s RSC meeting, one of the agenda topics was a question that came from a community library. They were asking for guidelines for staff to use when making the determination about moving something from Reference to circulating. And the request asked that those guidelines be placed on the intranet.
As we migrate to Polaris there will be some significant changes and one of those changes will be the use of REF in call numbers. Although the catalog will reflect this, the spine labels will not be retrospectively changed. New material will have that REF call number when we migrate. And since this is a call number, it can only be edited by Catalog Services staff. The movement of materials from Reference to circulating can still happen, but it will require some consultation with the RSC and approval by Terry.
