search tips

At the recent OAK reference meeting we talked about several search tips, particularly as related to searching in google.  Be sure to also see google’s articles on other tips.

Here are some things we like to use:

–Find a full-text magazine article by searching the article title with “PDF” at the end of the query

–You can narrow google search results by “date” on the left side

–You can sort google “images” by subject

–You can search magazines in google books!

–You can upload an image in google images to find “visually similar images”

Add others by leaving a comment on this post.

Thanks,
Kara

In Advanced Image Search you can limit the color and search for ‘books with tree on the cover’ very handy when customers ask for a book by the color of its cover 🙂
