1940 Census is Live, Sorta

The genealogy buffs nearly brought the National Archives to its knees yesterday, with an estimated 37 million hits during the first 8 hours the 1940 Census was available.  Things are a bit better today–pages are loading, though very slowly.  I’m finding that Chrome is by far the fastest for loading.  Printing is sporadic–sometimes it works, sometimes it just hangs there.

And although indexing projects have begun, it will be months before name indexes are available for all states.

If you’d like to stay current with all the drama, be sure to check out the Ancestry Insider for all the scoop!
